Cynthia Joan creates smart, catchy radio-friendly pop/rock. Somewhat of a gypsy,
this Ann Arbor native made her performance debut on the road singing vaudeville-styled
numbers in Rosier Players' Traveling Tent Show. Next she spent a couple of
years gigging around California in a series of rock, pop and folk bands, and worked
with writer/composer Rick Medina. She came back home and fronted the Dysfunctionals,
an Ypsilanti-based rock band, and is currently working solo again in Japan until
July of 2003. Take It Away is her debut CD and, although it's been out awhile,
I just recently discovered Cynthia while browsing through a local web site dedicated
to Michigan artists. My favorite tracks are the bittersweet "A Heart Can
Heal," featuring some terrific Spanish guitar, "Let Go," "Take
It Away" and the rocking "Satisfied," where Joan's sweet voice
turns to a sexy purr. For more info go to www.cynthiajoan.com
